Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC)
in the Operative Setting Following Surgery

In this patient-oriented presentation, Dr. Nader Hanna will explain the components of the surgery, the HIPEC procedure, which patients may be candidates for this procedure and the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program at the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center.

Following the presentation, Dr. Hanna will address questions from participants about the HIPEC procedure and the program at UMGCC.

About the Expert

Dr. Hanna received his medical degree from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt in 1985, and completed his surgical residency at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Tufts University. He also completed two fellowships at the University of Chicago. He is board-certified in general surgery and surgical oncology.

Dr. Hanna was featured in "Practicing Art on Medicine's Front Lines: Tales from the OR and the Bedside" -- U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals 2009 issue cover story. See the photo gallery of one cancer patient's story.

Dr. Hanna was selected as one of "America's Top Doctors for Cancer" in 2009 by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., and was also named to Baltimore Magazine's 2008 "Top Doctors" List. He is included in the "Guide to America's Top Oncologists" by the Consumers' Research Council of America.

His special interests include pancreatic and hepatobiliary malignancies, colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, peritoneal surface malignancies, appendicular cancer, and retroperitoneal sarcoma.
