The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins (SKCCC) and the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center (UMGCC) announce a request for applications for collaborative Cigarette Restitution Fund Program (CRFP) grant awards. The purpose of these awards is to promote research collaborations between the faculty of UMGCC and SKCCC, with the expectation of the development and submission of a program-project-type extramural grant application. Each institution will contribute up to $50,000 per year from the CRFP in support of an application.
The text of the proposals (excluding literature citations) is limited to a
maximum of 6 pages (single space, 12-point font). The proposal should include:
I. Specific Aims
II. Background
III. Preliminary Results
IV. Experimental Plan. Please note that inclusion of preliminary results is
not mandatory but should be included if available.
V. Describe how the grant funds will contribute to the development of grant
applications from extramural sources.
VI. Explain how the project will enhance collaborative research between the
UMGCC and SKCCC and, in particular, lead to the development of multi-investigator
grants (e.g., program project applications).
Applications must include:
(i) Cover page that includes Project Title, amount of funds requested, PI signature,
list of co-investigators and signature approval from the applicant’s department
(chair or designee)
(ii) Biosketch and Other Support for all collaborators (NIH format),
(iii) Budget and Budget Justification (NIH non-modular format). Salary for technical
support is acceptable, as is support for consumable supplies, and shared services.
Investigator salary, equipment, travel, maintenance contracts, and other costs
not directly supporting the project are not allowed.

Applications will be reviewed by a joint committee composed of the UMGCC and SKCCC faculty. The cancer center Directors will make the final funding decision.
November 15, 2007. Funds will be awarded for 1 year. Awardees will be expected to present an outline of their proposal at the Research Matters conference on November 15, 2007. Approved projects involving animal or human subjects will not be funded until receipt of documentation of protocol approval by the respective cancer center administrative office.
Awardees must submit final report by December 1, 2008. Publications generated as a result of these grants should acknowledge the collaborative grant program of the UMGCC and SKCCC. Awardees must notify the respective cancer center administrative office if and when the research funded by these collaborative grants contributes to an extramural grant application, including notification of successful applications.
Competitive renewal applications will be considered based upon research progress and, in particular, upon the likelihood of successfully obtaining extramural funding
