Outpatient care for cancer patients at the University of Maryland
Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center (UMGCC) is now provided in the
state-of-the-art Roslyn and Leonard Stoler Pavilion. Opened in the summer of
2005, the Stoler Pavilion provides the very latest in comprehensive outpatient
services for cancer treatment in a comfortable and convenient setting.
Located just inside the main hospital entrance at
the University of Maryland Medical Center, the Stoler Pavilion was designed
to make each patient’s visit for outpatient cancer care as pleasant and
comfortable as possible. It features exam rooms, infusion areas and treatment
rooms all designed specifically with the needs of cancer patients in mind. Comfortable
waiting areas, soothing colors, high tech amenities, and a wide range of support
services are all available in the centrally-located facility.
Multidisciplinary Care
A cancer diagnosis is stressful enough, without a patient having to arrange
multiple appointments to see different specialists in different locations. The
Stoler Pavilion is designed to function as the “home base” for patients
receiving outpatient cancer care at UMGCC. New patients meet with a team of
specialists – a surgeon, a radiation oncologist and a medical oncologist
– all in one visit without leaving the outpatient center. Our exam rooms
adjoin conference rooms where the various physicians handling each patient’s
case can consult on the spot, and discuss the best course of treatment. Patients
have access to most all the cancer care professionals they will need to see
in one convenient location.
Infusion Therapy in the Stoler Pavilion
For patients receiving intravenous chemotherapy, blood products or other medications,
the Stoler Pavilion features a bright, sunlit infusion suite with 22 private
and semi-private bays and three treatment rooms. Deluxe chairs, flat screen
TVs and Internet access are provided for the comfort and convenience of patients
and their family members.
On-Site Support Services
In addition to providing a convenient setting for
expert, team-driven medical care, the Stoler
Pavilion is home to a suite of patient support
services focused on the other needs – both
physical and emotional – of patients and their
families. Palliative care, pharmacy, phlebotomy
(blood drawing), nutrition and genetic
counseling, psychological and social work consultations, patient
education and a patient navigator are among the
many support services available to patients on site.

Patient Education
GCC encourages patients to take an active role in their treatment by learning
all they can about their illness. Our patient education kiosks, located centrally
in the Stoler Pavilion, give patients easy access to the latest online resources.
Patient Navigator
For patients who have difficulty following
through with the demands of a complicated
cancer diagnosis, our Patient Navigator is
available to help. In collaboration with the
American Cancer Society, this individual helps
to connect patients to the many resources that
are available to facilitate their care.
Referring Physician Consultation and Communication
Easy access for referring community physicians
to University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart
Greenebaum Cancer Center specialists is
important. The Stoler Pavilion’s high-tech
videoconferencing capabilities allow our cancer
specialists to communicate with practitioners at
outlying community facilities through
telemedicine links.
