Being Admitted

Patient Web Pages
Stay connected to family and friends during medical treatment. Create you own patient web page to keep loved ones up-to-date.

If you are being admitted, please go to the main Hospital Admitting Office on the first floor of the medical center, near the main lobby.

A receptionist will greet you and review your insurance information with you. Please bring all of your insurance information and documents with you, including:

insurance cards
policy numbers
insurance company address
claim forms
referral forms (this is essential if you are covered under an HMO)
authorization forms
a copy of your advanced directives or living will

UMGCC has contracts with nearly all managed care insurance carriers. See our complete list of participating carriers. If you do not have health insurance, a hospital representative will help you to make arrangements or to apply for medical assistance.

Personal Belongings

Please bring personal items, slippers, robe, pajamas or nightgown, and medications in original bottles.

Hospital Amenities

To make your stay as comfortable as possible, televisions and telephones are available in all patient rooms. There is a small fee for use of the TV. A video cassette recorder and book cart are also available.

Nutrition Services

UMGCC's registered dieticians work with you to help you maintain good nutrition. Hostesses deliver your meals and can help you select your menus. They can also prepare between-meal snacks for you and advise about storing or preparing food brought from home. If you are having problems eating after you get home, or are losing weight, ask your doctor or nurse to refer you to the dietician to work on these problems with you.

If You Are Having Surgery

We know that having surgery can be a stressful time for you, your family and your friends. We try to make the transition from surgery to recovery as easy as possible.

Most cancer patients recovering from surgery stay in the state-of-the-art Weinberg 5 unit. The floor is designed to take into consideration the special needs of cancer surgery patients, many of whom require intensive emotional and psychological support. A low nurse-to-patient ratio and all-private rooms mean that cancer surgery patients have the best environment possible in which to heal and regain their strength. Nurses and other staff care for these patients as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
