When: June 20-21, 2008
Where: County Home Park, Cockeysville, Maryland
Register to participate.
Relay For Life® is a fun-filled overnight event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer in our community. The event is held to celebrate survivorship and raise money to help the American Cancer Society in its mission to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer, and empower individuals to fight back.
We encourage everyone to become a part of this exciting and important event! You do not need to be a runner or even a walker to take part, and people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities can participate.
During the event, teams of people take turns walking or jogging around a track for 12 to 24 hours. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
Relay for Life is the nation's largest fundraising event, and is the ACS's signature nationwide fundraising activity. The ACS annually spends more than $100 million to fund cancer research grants.
Each Relay opens with an inspirational program during which a cancer survivor talks about his/her battle, followed by the event's opening lap lead by cancer survivors and their caregivers. Survivors are welcome participate to any extent that they feel comfortable. They may participate in some or all of the first lap or simply join the group for a reception and dinner, all completely free of charge.
Sign up today to join the UMGCC Relay for Life team. Together we will fuel the work --and the hope --that can help make a cancer-free future a reality. To make a donation, register as a survivor/caregiver or to join the UMGCC Team, please go to the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center Team site.
