The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center’s (UMGCC) Fairway to Life Breast Care Center has received a three-year full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program of the American College of Surgeons.  The Center is among the first in the nation to receive NAPBC Accreditation.

NAPBC designation recognizes that the center provides the highest quality evaluation and management of patients with the full spectrum of breast disease. In order to achieve NAPBC accreditation, the breast program underwent a rigorous evaluation and on-site review of its performance and compliance with national standards. Criteria for receiving the accreditation include center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement. More than a dozen of the nation's leading medical professional organizations are NAPBC members and have collaborated on establishing a single, national standard for the quality of care provided to breast cancer patients.

The American Cancer Society estimates that 184,500 patients were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the United States in 2008.  In addition, hundreds of thousands of women will deal with benign breast disease this year and will require medical evaluation for treatment options.

The Breast Evaluation and Treatment Program at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center is one of the oldest and most experienced multidisciplinary breast care programs in the country. Our medical leaders in the fields of breast surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology and plastic surgery work closely with our breast imaging specialists in the University of Maryland Breast Center to provide expert care for all types of breast conditions and concerns.
