Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program

Letter from the Program Director

Dear Applicant,

Ann Butler Zimrin, M.D.

Thank you for your interest in the University of Maryland Hematology/Oncology fellowship training program. This website will provide you with information about our educational philosophy, the program structure, the curriculum and the application process.

We offer on a yearly basis four three-year fellowship positions for training in the fields of Hematology and Medical Oncology. The program is a joint activity of the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center and the Division of Hematology/Medical Oncology of the Department of Medicine. Intensive clinical training is provided at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the Baltimore Veterans Administration Medical Center, both located on the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus. Fellows also participate in clinical or basic science research in one of the many research labs on campus.

In addition to the hematology/oncology track described above, in 2008 we are offering a UMMS/NIA Medical Oncology track. This track is designed for fellows who are committed to a career in academic oncology and who would like to spend an uninterrupted stretch of time immersed in research. It combines the outstanding clinical training available at the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center with the opportunity to do state of the art research with the scientists and clinical investigators at the National Institute of Aging, an NIH Institute with campuses located in Baltimore at Harbor Hospital and on the Bayview campus.

Applications for the both the Hematology/Oncology fellowship and the UMMS/NIA Medical Oncology fellowship are accepted through the Elecctronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), with details available on the How to Apply page.

We are excited about the spectacular advances taking place in the fields of Hematology and Medical Oncology and are looking for fellows who share that excitement. We are committed to providing outstanding clinical training and opportunities for fellows to develop into independent investigators, both in the scientific and clinical arenas. I invite you tour the website and submit an application to the University of Maryland. I look forward to meeting you and talking to you about how we can further your career in the field.

Sincerely

Ann Zimrin
