Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program

How to Apply

Applications for the Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship Program are only accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Detailed information concerning the ERAS application submission process is available at www.aamc.org/eras. A minimum of three years of training and board eligibility in internal medicine are prerequisites. Foreign medical graduates must have permanent visas or have passed the VQE or FMGEMS exam.

The following materials must be submitted through ERAS no later than January 15 , 2009.

  1. ERAS application
  2. Personal statement
  3. Current curriculum vitae
  4. Three letters of recommendation, including one from your program director. Please ask your referees to pay particular attention to the following:
    1. General medical knowledge
    2. Medical competence in dealing with critically ill patients
    3. Emotional stability in working with patients with advanced malignancy
    4. General interest in academic Medical Oncology
    5. (Required) Background and interest in academic Oncology as a career and a view of your competence to engage in scientific research

  6. Your email address

For applicants interested in the UMMS/NIA Medical Oncology track, applications should be submitted through the ERAS through the Hematology/Oncology application. Interest in this track should be communicated by email to Alicia Hendrix, the fellowship coordinator, and the details of the program will be discussed during the candidate's interview. Suitable candidates may be invited back for a second interview on the NIA campus. The ERAS rank order list for the two tracks are separate; applicants can rank the UMMS/NIA track either alone or in addition to the UMGCC Heme/Onc fellowship program.

Upon review of these materials, we will inform you of opportunities for a visit to the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center to meet with members of the Senior Staff, tour the facilities, and develop a greater understanding of our program.
