Cancer of the endometrium, a common cancer in women, is a disease in which cancerous cells develop in the endometrial lining of the uterus.

There are several types of endometrial cancer, but most occur in the glandular cells of the endometrium and are called adenocarcinomas. Cancer of the endometrium is different from cancer of the muscle of the uterus (sarcoma of the uterus).

The American Cancer Society estimates there were 42,160 new cases of endometrial cancer diagnosed in the United States in 2009. Approximatley 7,780 women died from this disease.
