Skin Cancer (Cutaneous Oncology) Program

The Skin Cancer (Cutaneous Oncology) Program at the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center focuses on the treatment of malignancies that involve the skin. The program treats patients with both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. Physicians from multiple specialties including surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, dermatology, dermatopathology, and interventional radiology provide multidisciplinary care to patients.

One of the main focuses of the program is the management of patients with high-risk melanoma. This includes patients with:

• increased risk of developing melanoma, either due to a personal or family history of melanoma or dysplastic nevus syndrome (atypical moles)
  
• increased risk of progression of melanoma, due to the presence of thick primary lesions, which are more likely to spread, or due to lymph node involvement

These patients are followed closely at regular intervals to monitor for new primary lesions, recurrence, and response to treatment.
