I can only make a small gift. Will it still
make an impact?
Every gift makes a difference. The synergy created by several small gifts creates
enough support to have a big impact. Each gift is recognized and greatly appreciated.
How do I make a memorial gift?
To honor a person or an event in someone’s life, please select the Memorial/Honor
gift donation when you view the Online
Donation Form. If you have any questions, please call 410-328-5770 for assistance.
How will the family/person I want to honor know
I made a gift in their memory/honor?
As soon as your donation is received, the UMMS Foundation sends a note to the
individual or family letting them know that a gift to UMGCC has been made in
their honor. The amount of the gift remains confidential.
Will I receive a thank-you note?
Yes, after making a donation through the mail or on-line, you will receive a
gift tax receipt and a thank-you note from the UMMS Foundation.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes, the University of Maryland Medical System Foundation represents the philanthropic
interests of UMGCC and is a 501c3 designated foundation. You will receive a
tax receipt for your gift within a week of your donation.
Can the UMMS Foundation redirect my gift for
use by another UM Medical Center department?
No, the UMMS Foundation is a donor-centered foundation and is governed by a
board of directors that sets all gift policies. Your gift will be used for your
intended purpose.

What are the UMGCC/UMMS Foundation donor protection
policies?
In addition to the HIPAA privacy policy, the UMMS Foundation adheres to the
principles found in the Donor Bill of Rights developed by the Association of
Healthcare Philanthropy.

a gift?
UMGCC has a professional staff experienced in assisting you with all types of
charitable gifts. We will help you and your financial/legal advisers design
a giving plan that is in your best interests and that fulfills your desire to
support our fight against cancer.
